Project: Scientific and Technological Excellence by Leveraging LOFAR Advancements in Radio Astronomy (STELLAR)

Номер на проекта: 952439

Duration: 01.09.2020 - 31.08.2023

Funded by: H2020-EU.4.b. - Twinning of research institutions

Project Coordinator: INSTITUTE OF ASTRONOMY AND NATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY AT THE BULGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES (BULGARIA)

Project Coordinator for TU - Sofia: Assoc. Prof. Petar Petkov

Anotation:

Bulgaria’s Institute of Astronomy and National Astronomical Observatory (IANAO) and the Technical University of Sofia (TUS) will team up to develop and boost their radio observing capabilities. Their collaboration will be enhanced by the Netherlands' Institute for RadioAstronomy (ASTRON) and the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS), world-leaders in advanced astronomy. The EU-funded STELLAR project will build on this partnership to expand the network of the advanced European distributed telescope, LOFAR. By organising trainings for IANAO and TUS staff at ASTRON and DIAS, the project will ensure the realisation, utilisation and further development of a LOFAR station in Bulgaria.

Project objective: The Bulgarian Institute of Astronomy and the National Astronomical Observatory (IANAO) and the Technical University of Sofia (TUS) will work together to develop and improve their radio monitoring capabilities. Their collaboration will be strengthened by the Netherlands' Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON) and the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS), world leaders in radio astronomy.
