Катедра "Теоретична електротехника" е основана под името "Теория на електричеството и измервателна eлектротехника" през 1945 год., когато към Висшето техническо училище се създава Машинно - технологическият факултет, от който води началото си ВМЕИ - София. Тя е първата електротехническа катедра в института и в страната.

Фактическата й дейност започва от 22.10.1945 год., когато за неин ръководител с указ № 144 на регентите е назначен прoф. Минчо Петров Златев. Завършил в 1931 год. електроинженерство във Висшето техническо училище в Тулуза - Франция, той получава научната степен "Доктор на техническите науки" в Ленинградския политехнически институт - СССР през 1966 год. Той е чуждестранен член-кореспондент на Френската академия на науките в Тулуза и активен член на редица други международни дружества и комитети.

    • Целта на обучението по “Теоретична електротехника - II” е да запознае студентите с несинусоидалните режими в линейни вериги, веригите с разпределени параметри, основните подходи за описване на преходните процеси в линейни и в нелинейни електрически вериги, както и с методите за анализ на тези процеси. Студентите получават и основни знания от теорията на електромагнитното поле.
