Technical University of Sofia Recognizes IBM Bulgaria for Its Contribution to Modern Engineering Education

Technical University of Sofia recognized IBM Bulgaria for the continuous, consistent and productive partnership between the academic community and the company, as well as for the company’s significant contribution to the further development of modern technical education in Bulgaria.

Over the years, the cooperation between the University and IBM Bulgaria proved to be an example of what a strategic alliance between a leading academic institution and a global technology company should look like. It is based on the shared understanding that quality education, access to modern technologies and practical training are key to the development of highly-qualified professionals and a sustainable technology ecosystem. The University sees the donation not simply as the provision of equipment and hardware, but also as an investment in the future of engineering education, young professionals’ growth, and the technological potential of Bulgaria.

The Rector of the Technical University of Sofia, Prof. Georgi Venkov, awarded Plamen Staykov, Global Director and a local leader of the IBM Bulgaria Client Innovation Center, with a distinction which reads: “As a token of appreciation for the donation of equipment and hardware.” The recognition is for the investment with long-term value, directed towards one of the most important resources of the future – the knowledge, skills and professional development of young people.

The donation of modern telecommunications equipment and high-tech hardware allows students at Technical University of Sofia to study in a contemporary and professionally oriented technological environment, similar to the one found at leading companies and technology organizations.
The initiative is being implemented within the academic and research environment of the Faculty of Telecommunications. 

The work and coordination of the initiative’s implementation have been led by Prof. Dr. Eng. Agata Manolova, Dean of the Faculty of Telecommunications, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Kamelia Nikolova, Vice Dean of Academic Affairs. Their work has transformed the relationship between academia and industry into a productive alliance with tangible results, creating closer relations between higher education and industry, and offering better prospects for future telecommunications engineers and IT professionals.

TU’s partnership with IBM Bulgaria is turning into a practical and auspicious support system for the students. For the University, modern engineering education means much more than acquiring just theoretical knowledge. It also includes opportunities for students to work with modern technologies, to experiment, to solve real-world engineering problems, and to develop practical competencies, technological thinking, confidence and adaptability – qualities that are vital for their future professional growth.
