For contributions to the education system, culture, and the French language, at a solemn ceremony at the Embassy of the French Republic, H.E. Eric Lebeudel, Ambassador of the country to Bulgaria, awarded (27.01.) the highest degree - Commander of the Order of Academic Palms to Prof. Dr. Ivan Momchev, long-time Dean of the Faculty of French Training in Electrical Engineering. This is his second award. The first was at the rank of knight.
The Order is the third most significant distinction in France, after the Legion of Honour and the National Order of Merit. It was established in 1808 by Napoleon and has three degrees - knight, officer, and commander. Prof. Ivan Momchev is a member of the Association of Members of the Order of Academic Palms (AMORA), founded in 1962. The institution is under the honorary patronage of the President of the French Republic, the Minister of Education, and the Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honour. It has over 30,000 members, including many foreigners from 75 countries.
