Why choose this specialty?

Graduate engineers can work:

in the design, construction, and operation of electrical power and electrical engineering facilities;
in electricity distribution and transmission companies, power plants and substations, electrical engineering firms, and power supply systems;
as designers for electrical installations in buildings;
in the operation of new and renewable energy sources;
in research, development, implementation, and consulting activities related to electrical power facilities;
in developing their own business in the field of electrical engineering and renewable energy sources;
as teachers in secondary schools.

What are the admission requirements?

At the Faculty of Engineering and Pedagogy in Sliven, part of the Technical University of Sofia, applications are submitted with:

a state final exam in Bulgarian language and literature, and/or
a state final exam in mathematics, and/or
a state final exam in physics, and/or
a mathematics test (preliminary or regular).

What will I learn?

During the first three semesters, subjects are studied to build fundamental knowledge in mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanics, electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, foreign language.
During the next 4 semesters, general subjects for the specialization are studied in the fields of theory, management, and design of electric machines, electric apparatuses, and electric drives, electrical measurements, switching and converter technology, computer-aided design and simulation of electric apparatuses, technologies in electrical engineering and electronics, telecommunications, ecology, and renewable energy sources, etc.
The last semester is entirely composed of elective subjects in the direction "Electric Networks," through which students acquire knowledge and skills for the analysis and use of electric networks, smart electric networks, the electrical part of power plants and substations, computer-aided design, design of decentralized energy sources, regimes and operation of electric networks

During the diploma project students apply the acquired knowledge and skills in developing solutions to real engineering problems.

The training combines traditional forms of teaching – lectures and exercises, with electronic and distance learning through the platform Blackboard of the Center for Distance Learning at the Faculty of Engineering and Pedagogy – Sliven, which provides constant access to educational materials and electronic educational resources.

The knowledge and skills acquired through the specialization "Electrical Power Systems" ensure successful career implementation in all sectors of the industry:

• manufacturing enterprises, companies, and units in energy, electric transport, agriculture, and processing industries;

• industrial enterprises, companies, and units for the development and production of electrical equipment using CAD/CAM technologies and systems;

• design, engineering, and consulting firms for the construction of electrical power facilities;

• design, engineering, and consulting firms for the development and implementation of energy-efficient management of technological processes, electric drives, and building automation;

• electricity distribution companies, representative offices of leading foreign firms.
